These are key when contracts are being awarded or you are being hired for a new position in your career.

Business management, sales and marketing, property management - whatever your specialization, NAHB has the most targeted curriculum, accomplished teachers, and widely respected education opportunities in the business.

The following are descriptions of some of the professional designations NAHB offers. If you would like more information about any of these designations or others offered by NAHB, contact the University of Housing at 800-368-5242 x8338 or visit www.NAHB.org/designations.

What is CGP?

The National Association of Home Builders Certified Green Professional™ designation recognizes builders, remodelers and other industry professionals who incorporate green building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. Classwork leading to the designation provides a solid background in green building methods, as well as the tools to reach consumers, from the organization leading the charge to provide market-driven green building solutions to the home building industry.

What is CGR?

Certified Graduate Remodelor™ (CGR) is an exclusive professional designation designed to emphasize business management skills as the key to a professional remodeling operation.

The CGR designation requires that graduates meet prescribed standards of business practice, possess a minimum of five years remodeling industry experience, have a proven track record of successful project management, complete a comprehensive education curriculum, and pledge to uphold the program's code of ethics.
Why Earn the CGR Designation?
Each year Americans spend more than $200 billion improving their homes. With an estimated 200,000 residential remodeling firms nationwide, plus another 600,000 self-employed workers doing remodeling and home repair, how are you going to catch the consumer's eye? The CGR designation was created to help identify those individuals who exemplify professionalism in the remodeling industry. As a CGR, you become a member of an exclusive national program, gain recognition as an industry leader, and call attention to yourself in a crowded marketplace.

What is CGB?

Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) courses offer an overview of key areas in today's home building industry: business management, financial strategies, marketing techniques, construction technologies, and more. New candidates are required to take the Builder Assessment Review (BAR) which determines which courses they must complete to earn the CGB designation. Existing candidates are not required to take the BAR and may complete nine, six-hour courses to earn a CGB. To maintain the designation, a graduate must take 12 hours of continuing education every three years after the initial certificate date. Six of those hours must be earned by taking an NAHB University of Housing course.

What is CGA?

The Certified Graduate Associate (CGA) certificate program offers associate members an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the fundamentals of the home building industry. The CGA is modeled after the Certified Graduate Builder's comprehensive curriculum of 21, six-hour courses delivered through licensed state and local home builder associations. The CGA designation is attained by completing three required and three elective courses, and it is maintained by completing one course annually and paying a $50.00 annual renewal fee. The required courses are: Introduction to Business Management, Customer Service, and Sales & Marketing.

What is GMB?

Graduate Master Builder (GMB) courses are more advanced with in-depth instruction geared for experienced building professionals. To begin the GMB certificate program a participant must have one of the following:
  1. a Certified Graduate Builder certificate or Certified Graduate Remodelor (CGR) certification, or
  2. successfully completed three CGB courses and have at least ten years of building business experience.
To earn a GMB certificate, a participant must:
  1. complete five GMB courses, or
  2. complete four GMB courses, plus two CGB/CGR courses (beyond those required for initial certification).

What is CAPS?

The Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place. The NAHB Remodelers™ Council, in collaboration with the AARP, NAHB Research Center, and NAHB Seniors Housing Council, developed this program to provide comprehensive, practical, market-specific information about working with older and maturing adults to remodel their homes for aging-in-place.
Why Earn the CAPS Designation?
The CAPS program will expand your understanding of the aging-in-place market, provide the necessary technical knowledge and resources, and give you the tools to gain access to that market.
