Toys for Santa Cop & Annual Coat Drive

Toys for Santa Cop

Since 1988, HBAL has been making toys for Santa Cop. One Saturday each November, HBAL members get together and make 60-100 wooden toys to donate to the Lincoln Police Department’s Santa Cop program. The officers give these toys to needy children for Christmas.

The 2017 Santa Cop Project will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 8:00 a.m. You can find more information in the November issue of the Lincoln Business Builder.

In November 2016, over 90 HBAL members (and their children and grandchildren) gathered to make 72 wooden LEGO tables. The children also helped build wooden robots which were delivered to the residents at Lancaster Rehabilitation Center by YBP members in early December. In 29 years, HBAL members have made over 2,000 wonderful toys for the Santa Cop program.

Each fall, we ask HBAL members to search their coat closets to find winter outerwear that’s not being used any more. Our office begins filling up with cold-weather garments for adults and children. Then we load up the donations of coats mittens, scarves, blankets, etc. and take them to the People’s City Mission in downtown Lincoln.
