Community Service Projects

The Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation helps support the following community service projects.

Santa Cop Project

Since 1988, the HBAL has been making toys for Santa Cops. One Saturday each November, HBAL members get together and make 60-100 wooden toys to donate to the Lincoln Police Department’s Santa Cop program. The officers give these toys to needy children for Christmas.

Every November, HBAL members (and their children and grandchildren) gather to make 70 wooden toys. The children have a special project which is also distributed with the wooden toy. In 25 years, HBAL members have made over 1,900 wonderful toys for the Santa Cop program. See photos.

Habitat for Humanity

Since 1992, members of HBAL have pledged time and money to build homes for families in need. Our 16th Habitat for Humanity Home was completed in 2012 at 1601 SW 27th Street in Heartland Homes Southwest. Providing decent, affordable housing for families is a priority for HBAL members. See photos. In 2017, HBAL’s annual golf tournament raised $10,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln’s Build#150.

Each fall, we ask HBAL members to search their coat closets to find winter outerwear that’s not being used any more. Our office begins filling up with cold-weather garments for adults and children. Then we load up the donations of coats mittens, scarves, blankets, etc. and take them to the People’s City Mission in downtown Lincoln.
